Y.U.K Crowned Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership Champions – Winter 2006/07
27 Feb 2007
Last night (26th February) saw Y.U.K confirmed as The Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership winners in their very first season, with Sixt F.C. taking the runners up spot.
In a fantastic first season Y.U.K. took the Premiership by storm, only losing one match all season and eventually taking the title by 11 clear points. Lead by team captain Jamie Scoffings and with the firepower of Kyle Green , Mark White and Steve Saunders who weighed in with a staggering 70 goals between them, they were without question well deserved winners of the Premiership title. They were pushed all the way by Sixt FC, who were title contenders throughout the season. However, as Sixt FC faulted, it was Y.U.K.’s consistent match winning performances each week and all round team effort that was the difference and which eventually brought them the title with a few games to spare! The team will no doubt be looking to make it two in a row next season!
The race for the runners up spot went to the wire between Sixt FC and last season’s Premiership winners Two Left Feet. It was Two Left Feet that held the advantage going into the last night of the season knowing a win would guarantee them the runners up spot. Sixt FC had done their bit earlier in the evening with a 4-1 win over N.W.A to put the pressure on Two Left Feet. Unfortunately for Two Left feet they came up against and an ever improving Hemerage team, who have had a great first season in the Premiership after promotion last season. Hemerage ran out 2-1 winners giving the runners up spot to Sixt FC. It was well deserved for the Sixt FC who at one point looked like title favourites after a fantastic first half of the season and were the only team to beat Y.U.K. Sixt F.C. will no doubt be hoping to go one better next season!
The relegation places were settled a few weeks ago with Chesterfield Cobras and Avoca All Stars relegated to the Championship - but we are sure both teams will be challenging for the Championship title next season and be looking to make a quick return to the Premiership!
The golden boot was won by Y.U.K star striker Kyle Green with a fantastic season tally of 38 goals - 10 clear of last seasons’ winner C Hanshaw (Two Left Feet), who this season finished in second.
The golden glove made it a clean sweep for Y.U.K, winning it with a record of only 14 goals conceded, showing that a strong all round team effort has brought them the title!
Congratulations to all teams who took part in a great season and best of luck in the new season which will kick off on 12th March.
