Allied Glazing FC crowned as South Yorkshire Business Premiership Champions – Autumn 2006
25 Oct 2006
Last night (24th October) saw Allied Glazing FC confirmed as South Yorkshire Business Premiership Champions for the second time in the teams’ history with Next FC taking the runners up spot.
Allied Glazing FC become only the second team to win the Premiership title twice and with a record of two titles and two runners up spots in just four seasons, their record speaks for itself! Lead by team captain Ian Buckley, Allied Glazing fired in 63 goals and only conceded 19 goals on their way to the title, which shows the great team effort that has brought the title back to Allied Glazing. The team will now be hoping to do what no past Premiership winners have done, by successfully defending their title!

Allied Glazing FC, however, did not have it all their own way with Next FC having a great first season in the league finishing runners up and pushing the champions very close. In fact going into the last night of the season the teams were level on points with Allied Glazing having a superior goal difference. Allied Glazing completed their season in style with an 8-1 victory over Phoenix which all but settled the title race. Next FC then came up against past Premiership winners Carcraft FC knowing only a cricket score would give them the title. They were, however, faced by a Carcraft team who were fighting against relegation and a determined Carcraft won 6-3 saving themselves from the drop in style! This doesn’t take away from a great first season in the league for Next FC and they will no doubt be looking to go one better next season!

The Carcraft victory meant JJFC were relegated to the Championship alongside St John’s, but both teams will be looking to bounce back next season. Last seasons’ Championship winners Phoenix completed a good first season in the top flight finishing a respectable third, but will be hoping they can break into the top two spots next season.
The golden boot was won for the second time by Gavin Davis (Allied Glazing) with a fantastic 28 goal tally. Nine clear of his nearest rival Andrew Wagland (Next FC) with 19 goals and Allied Glazing captain Ian Buckley in third with 18 goals.
