Match Night news:

Two Left Feet Win the Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership – Summer 06

05 Sep 2006

Last night (4th September) saw Two Left Feet confirmed as the first ever winners of The Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership with North Wingfield Gladiators taking the runners up spot!

In a fantastic first season of the league Two Left Feet became Premiership Champions by the narrowest of margins, taking the title over North Wingfield Gladiators on goal difference!   After a shaky start to the season in which Two Left Feet were soundly beaten 7-0 by North Wingfield Gladiators they then went on a thirteen match unbeaten run to take the title!

It had seemed for most of the season that North Wingfield Gladiators were odds on to take the title having lead the way from the word go.  However, Two Left Feet refused to give up and when North Wingfield Gladiators did drop points, they took full advantage.  On the penultimate night of the season Two Left Feet leapfrogged Gladiators to take top spot after they were beaten by Atletico Potato.  They then completed their season in commanding style with a 12-1 win over FC Britannia taking the title thanks to scoring nine more goals than their rivals.  Lead by team captain Jonathan Ayres and with the fire power of C Hanshaw who weighed in with 22 goals, Two Left Feet are deserved winners of The Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership title!

Two Left Feet - Premiership Champions!

It was heart break for North Wingfield Gladiators after leading for so much of the season but it was still a fantastic season long display from the team who are well worthy runners up and will no doubt look to go one better next season.

North Wingfield Gladiators -  Premiership Runners Up!

The battle to avoid relegation was just as absorbing as the title race with Chesterfield Cobra’s and Tupton AFC clashing in the last match of the season to see who would face the drop with already relegated FC Britannia.   Tupton AFC knew a draw would be good enough but the Cobras need all three points, which they dually delivered thanks to a 4-0 win over their rivals to keep them safe and send Tupton AFC down!

The golden boot competition also went down to the last night of the season with Two Left Feet’s C Hanshaw firing in 5 goals in the last game to edge out Sixt FC team captain Nathan Benger by two goals and end the season with an impressive 22 goals!

The golden glove went to North Wingfield Gladiator’s goal keeper with a record of 14 goals conceded and one of the key factors behind the team’s impressive season.

The new season kicks off on 18th September.  Two Left Feet and North Wingfield Gladiators will start as favourites but with the two promoted teams entering the league and the current teams looking to improve on this season, it is all set up for another fantastic season!
