Match Night news:

Norfolk ‘N’ Chance Win The South Yorkshire Business Premiership Title – Winter 2006

22 Mar 2006

Last night (21st March) Norfolk ‘N’ Chance where crowned The South Yorkshire Business Premiership winners with W. Wrights taking the runners up spot!

Norfolk ‘N’ Chance, lead by team captain Dave Callow, have become the first team to win The South Yorkshire Business Premiership for a second time and have done so in emphatic style winning the Winter 2006 title by eight clear points!  The league title had already been confirmed before last night’s matches - but Norfolk ‘N’ Chance kept their concentration to complete a fantastic season with a 4-2 win over W. Wrights.

Norfolk 'N' Chance - champions for the second time!

This meant that for the second season running, W. Wrights take the runners up spot – after pushing Norfolk ‘N’ Chance much harder than the 8 point lead might suggest.  I’m sure they will be hoping that next season will be their opportunity to finally take the title!

W. Wrights - the unlucky runners up!

It was left to the relegation battle to provide the excitement on the last night, where there were three teams (Westside Wanderers, Real Acorn and Exolite) fighting to avoid the two relegation places.  Westside Wanders were the bottom team going into the final night but with two matches to play, they knew two wins would see them safe.  They completed part one with a 4-2 win over Exolite setting up the final match of the season against Real Acorn, which would decide the relegation places.  Westside Wanderers merely needed a win and Real Acorn needed to win by 12 goals or more to keep them up.  In the end it was too much for either side to pull off a great escape with Real Acorn winning 5-2 which meant both teams where relegated.  It was relief for Exolite who stay up in the end on goal difference.

The golden boot award went to Norfolk ‘N’ Chance’s star striker Daniel Bingham, with 25 goals, who becomes the first player to win the award twice.  W. Wrights showed why they were the unlucky runners up in the league with two players Ashley Beresford and Mark Cooper finishing second and third respectively in the race for the golden boot.

BSJ Vets goalkeeper Tim Andrews avoided it being a clean sweep for Norfolk ‘N’ Chance by picking up the golden glove award with a record of just 23 goals conceded.  It completes a good first season for BSJ Vets in the Premiership after last seasons’ promotion, finishing in a respectable third place.

The new season kicks off on 4th April and the best of luck to all teams in what looks like being another fantastic season!
