Match Night news:

Wingerworth FC Storm To The Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership Title – Autumn 2009

02 Apr 2010

Monday 8th February saw Wingerworth FC crowned Premiership champions for the fourth time in their history. Last season’s winners, Wingfield Wanderers, finished in the runners up spot.

Wingerworth FC put last season’s disappointment of finishing runners up behind them, as they completed a near perfect season to clinch the title by a staggering eleven points.  The team, led by captain Paul Myers, completed an emphatic season, finishing it with an undefeated record.  Not only are Wingerworth the only team to complete an unbeaten Premiership season, but they have achieved this on three separate occasions.  This is now their fourth title in six seasons, making them true league legends.

Wingerworth FC - Four Time Premiership Winners

Defending champions Wingfield Wanderers, led by captain Matt Edinboro, had to settle for runners up spot this season.  Finishing in the top two for two seasons in a row is an impressive record and shows they have the consistency to match their talent.  They will no doubt be looking to mount a serious challenge again for the title next season.  5 Year Olds With Sticks were unlucky to miss out on the second spot on goal difference, but a third place finish represents their best season to date.   Middlecroft followed up last season’s promotion with an impressive fourth place finish and look like a team that could challenge the top spots next season.

Wingfield Wanderers - Premiership Runner Up!

The golden boot went to Wingerworth’s star striker Anthony Lyne with a new Premiership record of 40 goals – a fantastic achievement.   Team mate Wayne Bexton finished second with a season tally of 23 goals.

The golden glove made it a clean sweep for Wingerworth and highlighted what a dominant season it was for the team, as they won the award with a record of just 21 goals conceded.

Congratulations to all teams that took part in a great season.
