Wingfield Wanderers Win The Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership – Summer 2009

Monday 17th August saw Wingfield Wanderers crowned Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership champions. Wingerworth FC finished as runners up and YUK finished in third.
Led by captain Matthew Edinboro, Wingfield Wanderers completed a near perfect season, which saw them clinch the Premiership title for the first time in their history. The team have steadily improved since promotion to the Premiership two years ago and in recent seasons had begun to look like real title contenders. This season it all fell into place for Wingfield Wanderers and even though the goals of Jamie Carling were a big factor, it was undoubtedly an all round team effort that brought the title to Wingfield! The team can be proud of their achievement, which also stopped defending champions Wingerworth FC making it three titles in a row!

It was disappointment for Wingerworth FC, who were hoping to add to their amazing record in the league. Whilst they had to settle for runners up this season, they have still never finished out of the top three spots in the Premiership - a great record! We are sure they will be back next season, more determined than ever, to regain the Premiership crown.

The golden boot was some consolation for Wingerworth FC, as star striker Anthony Lyne picked up the award, with a season tally of 27 goals – the fourth highest record ever achieved in the Premiership and ninth all time record!
The golden glove capped a great season for the newly crowned champions, as Wingfield Wanderers picked up the award with a record of 11 goals conceded.
