Wingerworth Win The Chesterfield Monday Night Premiership – Summer 2008
23 Oct 2008
Monday 29th September saw Wingerworth crowned Premiership champions for the second time in three seasons. Wingfield Wanderers were confirmed as runners up.
Wingerworth, led by team captain Paul Myers, cruised to the Premiership title some seven points clear of their nearest rival. It highlighted what a dominant season long display the team had produced and makes them worthy Premiership champions. After finishing third last season, the team have bounced back in style to claim their second Premiership title. It means they join only one other team, Two Left Feet, to have won the Chesterfield Premiership title twice. It means if the team can lift the title next season they will be become the first team not only to defend the title, but will also become the most successful team ever to have played in the Chesterfield League!

Wingerworth - Premiership Champions!
Wingfield Wanderers took the runners up spot just two points clear of Rykneld Boys in third. The Wingfield Wanderers team under the captaincy of Matthew Edinboro have improved each season after gaining promotion to the big time three seasons ago. It is a fantastic achievement by the team and they will no doubt feel they are now well equipped to go one better next season and claim their first Premiership title! Last season’s champions had a season to forget and narrowly missed out on relegation thanks to a last night 7-2 win over Middlecroft. It sent Middlecroft down along with newly promoted Wildgoose, who found the going tough in the Premiership.
The golden boot went to Rykneld Boys star striker Jack Chambers with a season tally of 27 goals. Wingerworth’s Anthony Lyne was in second with 26 goals.
The golden glove capped a great season for Wingerworth as they picked up the award with a record of 23 goals conceded.
Congratulations to all teams that took part in a great season.
