Black Cat FC win The Macclesfield Sunday Night Championship Title – Summer 2007
25 Sep 2007
Sunday 16th September saw Black Cat FC crowned Championship winners and gain promotion to the Premiership along with runners up Macclesfield Rangers!
In an exciting climax to the season the title and promotion places were all still up for grabs going into the last night of the season, with three teams battling it out for the top two spots! Promotion rivals Macclesfield Rangers clashed with ECG both knowing they were in a winner takes all scenario! It was, however, Macclesfield Rangers who took the three points in a tense and hard fought 2-1 win! This meant that amazingly, the two teams had finished on exactly the same record. Macclesfield Rangers, however, had the better record in games between the two teams, meaning they leap frogged unlucky ECG into second spot. This guaranteed them promotion and gave them an outside chance of taking the title!
It was an ideal result for Black Cat FC. For as long as they did not suffer a heavy defeat in their match against the ever improving Duct Tape FC they would take the title. The Black Cat FC team, led by Richard Ovel, held their nerve to end the season in style with a 3-0 win -confirming them as Championship winners and winning promotion to the big time! It was a well deserved title win for the Black Cat team who had led the division from the first game and played some fantastic football on their way to the title. The team will feel with the firepower of players like Oliver Ward and Andrew Warner finishing the season on 9 and 8 goals respectively they have nothing to fear in the Premiership next season!
Black Cat FC - Premiership bound!
The Black Cats win confirmed Macclesfield Rangers as runners up. It was cruel on ECG to miss out on the narrowest of margins, but they will feel they can go all the way next season and will no doubt start as one of the promotion favorites. Senior Aerospace BWT had an impressive first season in fourth, finishing just three points off the promotion places. Duct Tape FC finished in fifth but had a much improved second half of the season.
Macclesfield Rangers - Championship Runners Up!
The golden boot went to Senior Aerospace BWT striker Jon Hirst with an impressive 14 goals. Macclesfield Rangers Paul Cook was second with 12 and ECG team captain Steve Bellerby was in third with 11.
The golden glove completed a great night for Black Cat FC as they picked up the award with a record of 13 goals conceded!
Golden Glove Winner!
Congratulations to all teams who took part in a great season and best of luck in the new season which will kick off on 14th October.
